Ananya’s practice explores the perennial human crisis of dissatisfaction. Regardless of their state of affairs, she observes that people continue to struggle for something ‘better’. If they happen to achieve their goals, they only want more. This hedonistic cycle pervades every aspect of our lives including relationships, financial prowess, professional success and popularity. While it has undoubtedly contributed to progress, it might also lead to destruction. Hailing from a pilgrimage destination, Ananya has a unique view into how the socio-religious context of one’s constant ‘need for more’. She juxtaposes her anthropological observations in her artworks with depictions of mythological symbols.
