MD Aslam

The displacement of people as a result of war and political instability in the past decade, with a special focus on the events in the last two years has received tremendous criticism and heard loud public outcry. The movement of refugees across borders and the resulting identity crisis, erasure of history, unstable prospects etc. are recurring themes in the works of artists who choose to deal with such issues. Migration aesthetics is the central focus for many contemporary artists who work around war and political conflict.
Knowing and understanding the possibilities and likewise the limitations of expressing migratory aesthetics through visual art, Aslam’s work has focused on not necessarily showing the personal plight of refugees or victims of war. The aim has been to look at and trace the footprints of migration in the wake of political crisis in the current day and age.
