In Memory of Manida

June 3, 2017 – June 29, 2017

‘In Memory of Manida’ is an ode to the artist K G Subramanyan, it features work that accentuates seven decades of his career and marks his first death anniversary. The event is a retrospective exhibition on the life and art of Manida, as he was fondly referred to.

Imbued with values inspired by Gandhi and Tagore, Manida exemplified the rare kind of artist and teacher that are no longer found in colleges of India today. He transformed the very understanding of art and subsequently the role of the artist in society. He had the ability to dive deep into the cultural understanding of tradition and portray them as a beautiful story on a canvas.

He inspired everyone who knew him, they say every second with him was a learning process. ‘In Memory of Manida’ was conceptualized to honor K G Subramanyan’s contribution to the society as a scholar, teacher, painter, sculptor, muralist, and printmaker.

Brijender Nath Goswamy, one of India’s leading art historians and art critic, winner of the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, concluded the exhibit with a talk titled ‘Entering the Domain of the Gods’, on the 29th of June, the day of the artists’ demise.
